Reporting from Buenos
Aires...
IV MUNDIAL DE BAILE -
6th World Tango Championships
The Championships started soon after the Festival in venues
throughout Buenos Aires. The Salon Tango final took placed
at the 'Obras Sanitarias Stadium', the closing ceremony at
'Salon Harrod' and The Stage Tango final was at 'Luna Park
Stadium'.
Salon Harrod is an old department store situated in Florida
Mall that has been converted into an exhibition centre for the
Tango Championships. During the day there were movies and
free Tango classes for everyone to enjoy. If you didn't feel
like joining the classes, you could just dance a few tandas on
the huge dance floor or relax at the cafe. Every night the
venue hosted live concerts and entertainment. So much to do!
Other exhibition centres
associated with the Championships include 'Casa de Carlos
Gardel' museum and 'Centro Cultural Recoleta'.
At the Closing Ceremony last Sunday 31st August a big crowd
gathered at Salon Harrod for the last milonga where Ochestra
El Fronte played live. Oh boy, you'd want to hope that
you've mastered the skill of dancing on a square tile to
survive this crowd.
Last night (Monday 1st Sept BA time) was the Stage Tango
Final held at Luna Park
Stadium. Everyone was very anxious to hear the final result.
A long queue formed in the early afternoon of eager
Tangueros waiting to
get in.
Sixteen finalists danced with
great skill and excellent choreography. The challenge of
competition tends to bring out the best in many of these
young dancers, giving them a reason to excel in their art.
Congratulations to the IV World Tango Champions!
