TANGO WORLD CHAMPIONS of 2005 |
On the 12th - 20th August, Buenos Aires
was overflowing with tango concerts, theme classes, workshops
and exhibitions as part of the celebration of the third
'Tango World Championships'. Local milongueros and
dancers from around the world gathered to represent their
countries to compete in 'Salon Tango' and 'Stage
Tango' categories.
In Buenos Aires, Salon Tango is the most
popular traditional category of tango for its unbroken
embrace, style, movement and closeness to the floor cadence
and rhythm. The Stage Tango category has gained more
enthusiasts from Europe, the United Stated and Japan. A
greater emphasis is placed on artistic display including
choreography, couple's synchronicity, costumes and make-up.
The winner of each category was awarded $5000 (Arg. pesos)
and finalists received commemorative plaques..

"We enter this world alone. We
leave it pretty much the same way. And in between a dance called life.
Problem is, it takes two to tango. So we look for signs: something to
help us find our perfect partners. A smile, a wave. But we have to be
careful; because whilst some signs can be misinterpreted, others can be
missed completely... Some dances you sit out. Others you change
partners. The important thing is... you never stop dancing."

Come to
wish Maggie and Martjin a safe trip to Buenos Aires.
These talented musicians have been awarded the 'Ian Potter Cultural Grant'
to further their studies in Tango music.
Maggie is going to study with the musicians at the Escuela De Tango, Ramiro
Gallo and Ariel Espandrio. In her spare time she also
plays with the local musician Estaban Rios and Alfredo
at San Telmo.
Martjin will study with his bandoneon teacher Ramiro Boero. He is also going
to learn the special skill of bandoneon tuning and
repairs and attend tango arrangement classes in order to
bring back lots of new arrangements for us to enjoy.
Safe and happy travels Maggie and Martjin.

'freedom'. To be free of stress, free of constraints and the

expressing "yourself"? For the last
five years, we have strived to create an environment where
people feel welcome, to feel accepted and comfortable to "be
themself". Our spacious dance floor is everyone's canvass. We
welcome you to our next MILONGA
