MAY 2006 |
Hi Everyone,
Tango is a dance of peace when two people share the same space and have
a heart to heart talk like long lost friends.
More and more people are drawn to Tango thanks to many of you who have been great ambassadors. Nuevo
Tango Junction's weekly milonga has drawn great interest from travellers who
happened to be passing by, heard the music and saw people dancing. We
continue to grow and enjoy the company of new comers who are now passionate
about Tango.
The 2006 Australian Tango Championship's are fast approaching. We
encourage students to take part in this opportunity as a great learning
experience and a step towards more tango dancing achievements.

| SALÓN
STYLE |
Salón Tango originated in the 1940's and its
figures allow many combinations. Dancers' feet glide close to
the floor stepping in time to the music, without
Ganchos, Voleos and Sacadas. Smooth, precise steps and
the constant pursuit of elegance are the main features of this
style.
The dancers' bodies are opposite each other
in the form of pyramid. The torsos remain in contact, each dancer
maintains his/her axis and the Abrazo is continuous.
Even though there is no distance between them, the man can
perform figures with his legs and the woman can turn and pivot
freely, without too much movement of her hips and torso.
From the '50s onward there were more turns with pivots and this
required better space administration. Circulation on the
dance floor continued to be straight and counter-clockwise. The
cadence gains more importance in this style.

The Australian Tango Championships
feature two categories of Tango - Salón and Stage.
