                                                                                                                                                                   March 2006

Dear Friends,

Bon Voyage to the Tango dancers departing in March for the Festival in Buenos Aires. For those who can't make it to Argentina, Sydney is having its own Tango Festival in May and there's also the 2006 Australian Tango Championships to look forward to in June.

For dancers who intend to participate in this years competition, now is the time to begin the preparation. Is great dancing a matter of training? Or are we born dancers?

ARE WE BORN DANCERS?
Tango is a form of conversation. Yet some conversationalists communicate more effectively than others. A recent study has found an interesting link between genes and dancing...

"People are born to dance," says Ebstein. "They have [other] genes that partially contribute to musical talent, such as coordination, sense of rhythm. However, the genes we studied are more related to the emotional side of dancing - the need and ability to communicate with other people and a spiritual side to their natures that not only enable them to feel the music, but to communicate that feeling to others via dance."  - Jennifer Viegas

TIP FOR COMPETITION PREPARATION: Find a partner with whom you connect with. This will provide the foundation needed for a "good conversation" on the dance floor.
