Hello Everyone,

We enjoyed your company at the Russian Club last month!

This coming long weekend on Saturday 9th June is our annual Milonga tribute to Tango Legend - CARLOS GARDEL. Be there to share this tango moment, enjoy the live entertainment and our gourmet late night supper.

Also, our young maestro Manuel Alejandro has proven that the tradition of Tango is very much alive in young people’s hearts. Keep an eye out for his dynamic energy in the upcoming workshops!

CARLOS GARDEL BIO

Birth Name: Charles Romuald Gardès

Known as El Zorzal Criollo, the songbird of Buenos Aires, Carlos Gardel is a legendary figure in Argentina. He was born on 11th December 1890, in Toulouse (France). The charismatic singer's career coincided with the development of that intrinsically Argentine cultural icon, the tango (the traditional Argentinean music).

The elite overcame their aversion to the tango's humble origins and open sensuality only when the man and his music were already widely accepted in New York and Paris.

Radio performances and a film career extended this appeal. Gardel's sky-rocketing career was cut short in 1935, when he lost his life in a plane crash in Colombia. Grief swept from New York to Puerto Rico, and a woman in Havana even committed suicide. Hordes of people thronged to pay their respects as the singer's body made the journey to its final resting place in a Buenos Aires cemetery, travelling via Colombia, New York and Río de Janeiro. Instantly immortal and preserved forever young, his enduring fame is measured by the oft-heard Argentine expression 'Gardel sings better every day'. Over seventy years after his death, a devoted following keeps the legend blazing, playing Gardel's music daily, placing a lit cigarette in the hand of the life-sized statue which graces his tomb and keeping his few films in circulation.

Tango Reflections

“Tango (like love and philosophy) opens up the doors of thoughts – of the heart – and throws the key away forever. With Mimi and Teddy it’s “tango at first sight”. A Little Buenos Aires is more than dancing classes, it’s family, fun and friendship and the elegance of being among genuine teachers”

- Silvia Lanzetta, Italy

Bon Voyage Silvia, we’ve enjoyed having you in Sydney. Mimi & Teddy

Birthday Wishes to

THE TRADITION OF TANGO CARRIES ON...
MANUEL ALEJANDRO

When most of the boys had gone to play football, Manuel's dream was to become a great Tango dancer.

Manuel Alejandro Albarracin was born in Colon, province of Buenos Aires-Argentina. At the age of 13, he joined the group Ballet de Tango founded by Roberto and Zulma an established Tango couple well known in Colon and Buenos Aires. Robert and Zulma's tango school had successfully natured many young dancers. Amongst them is Pablo del Greco the charming young talent who visited Sydney last year.

Under the guidance of Robert and Zulma, Manuel's talents grew and so did his recognition as a professional dancer. Since then Manuel Alejandro was invited to teach in Luna de Tango in Tokyo, Japan and has been teaching there for the last 2 years. At the age of 22, Manuel has travelled and performed in Buenos Aires, Uruguay, Chile and Japan.
