I’ve been dancing tango for years, but it was only when for medical reasons I could no longer dance, that I began to find a way to represent my feelings about tango in my artwork. I started by transforming used tango shoes into sculptures and assemblages. These slowly evolved into the series, “Mi Noche Triste” (My Sad Night). The paintings then followed, reflecting other moods. 

 In my paintings my interest is not in representing actual appearances, but rather emotional experiences and feelings. I’ve been imbedding words in paintings ever since I visited Buenos Aires in 2005, and here I use writing to represent fragments of tango songs or a dancer’s bittersweet memories.     Article by Ursula Kolbe, 2009
